Contact UsWe conduct full-scale GBA+ assessments on projects from international development to energy sector, transportation and/or infrastructure developments.
We design and facilitate customized in-person, live online or online on-demand GBA+ training for your organization and the type of work that you do. We take large and often abstract GBA+ concepts and provide relevant examples, case studies and customized tools to support your learning.
We host an annual GBA+ Conference to share learning, tools and tips, best practices and the latest GBA+ developments. We also aim to develop a thriving GBA+ community network to generate support, jointly problem-solve and accelerate impact.
Short answer: No. Longer answer: GBA+ includes examination and consideration of not only sex, gender and sexual orientation, but also includes Indigeneity, race, ethnicity, language, (dis)ability, geographic location, culture, religion, education, rank, income, and much more. GBA+ takes an intersectional approach and includes consideration of social and societal norms, power and privilege, unconscious biases and microaggressions, and equips you with a framework and process to be an ally and actively integrate DEI into your work.
If you receive funding or are regulated by the federal government or a provincial government in Canada, chances are your organization is required to adopt and integrate GBA+ in your work. If not, GBA+ is a versatile equity tool that can be successfully integrated into all types of work in any sector. GBA+ can be applied to policy or program development, implementation or evaluation; event planning; marketing campaigns; service delivery; infrastructure development; product design and development; and much more. The ultimate goal of a tool like GBA+ is to advance inclusion and equality in your workplace.
Canadian Equality has specialized expertise in GBA+ and excels at adapting the process, framework, methodology and tools to apply it to directly to any type of work and any sector. The online basic government training often fails because it is not customized to your work and does not provide tangible and immediately actionable tools.
Yes. We can lead and/or support your department in creating a GBA+ responsibility centre, conduct an organizational needs assessment, develop and draft a meaningful policy statement, develop and design GBA+ training and tools, pilot GBA+ with one or several internal projects and create a change management informed roll-out plan for your entire organization as well as ongoing monitoring and evaluation.
The benefits of GBA+ have been well documented by the Government of Canada and by Canadian Equality, and include:
Canadian Equality takes an intersectional and customized approach to GBA+ to ensure it is sustainable and successful.
GBA+ includes an examination of various intersecting identity factors including sex, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, Indigeneity, (dis)ability, language, geographic location, education, income, culture, etc
We never provide “off-the-shelf" services because they are ineffective. Our GBA+ training and assessments are customized to your work, your sector and include the creation of customized tools that are immediately actionable and easily evaluated.
In every GBA+ project, we include 3 months of complimentary coaching. Our goal is for you to be successful and we will build your internal GBA+ capacity throughout the duration of the project. At the end of the project, we conduct an evaluation survey to detect areas for additional growth and will develop a customized coaching plan using “nudge theory.” Coaching nudges can be delivered via e-mail or text and aim to build and sustain knowledge and skills.
Whether you want to start your GBA+ journey with a training to HR professionals, or with piloting the tool on one project. Our GBA+ work is entirely scalable. We can work with you to start small, create GBA+ wins and ambassadors and then scale up to a roll-out across the entire organization.
