DEI Calendar for November 2024
DEI Calendar for November 2024
Domestic Violence Awareness Month – November is designated to unite advocates to end domestic violence. It is a time to help raise awareness about the signs of abuse, ways to prevent and put an end to it, uplift stories of survivors, and share information with leaders and policymakers. Domestic violence is prevalent in every community and affects all people regardless of age, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, or nationality. However, some populations are especially at risk. It disproportionately impacts women (especially Indigenous women, who are 2.5 times more likely to be victims of violence, and women living with physical and cognitive impairments, who are two to three times more likely to experience gender-based violence), trans, Two-Spirit, and gender non-conforming people (Source: Canadian Women’s Foundation).
Transgender Awareness Month – Transgender Awareness Month is an annual celebration honouring transgender history and the transgender community. Observed every November, it coincides with the Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20th. This month focuses on educating the public about the transgender community, increasing visibility for transgender individuals, and advocating for their rights.
16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence – is an annual international campaign that runs from November 25th (The International Day to End Violence Against Women) to December 10th. This year, we’re inviting you to a collective opportunity to learn how to take action in response to gender-based violence. We invite all individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women, girls and gender-diverse people.
