Neurodiversity Celebration Week
Neurodiversity Celebration Week (NCW) is a global initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences. This year, the week starts on March 13th.
The goal is to challenge the way people view and support those who are neurodivergent and create more inclusive environments that value diversity and empower everyone.
What is neurodiversity?
Neurodiversity refers to the natural variation in human brains and the different ways in which people process information, behave, communicate, and perceive the world around them.
Types of neurodivergence include but are not limited to, ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, and Tourette’s syndrome.
The neurodiversity movement
The neurodiversity movement is centered on valuing and respecting the unique perspectives, strengths, and abilities of neurodivergent individuals.
It emphasizes the need to avoid pathologizing or stigmatizing individuals based on their differences, and instead advocates for providing inclusive environments, support, and accommodations that can enable them to thrive in society.
